From the 20th to 29th of June 2018, a delegation of the Criminal Law department of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People´s Congress visited Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands to learn about international legal cooperation in criminal matters in these three countries. Mr. Wang Aili, Director-General of the Criminal Law Department of the Legislative Affairs Commission, led the delegation. The study trip started in Germany, where the delegation visited the Ministry of Justice in Düsseldorf, the Prosecutor General Office in Düsseldorf and Hamm, the Higher Regional Court in Hamm and the Public Prosecutors Office in Bonn, to learn about German legislation governing international cooperation in criminal matters and procedure for executing letters of request. An academic view on the subject was given by Professor Dr. Böse of the University of Bonn. In Belgium the Ministry of Justice and the “Federaal Parket” (Federal Prosecution Office) presented theoretical and practical issues of the international legal cooperation in criminal matters from a Belgium perspective. The delegation closed its study tour in The Netherlands, where the Ministry of Justice arranged a meeting with different experts and explained the Dutch legislative process and new (procedural) rules governing international legal cooperation in criminal cases.
