The Sino-European Conference on the Chinese Civil Code in Peking

From 21 to 22 September 2019, the Sino-European Conference on the Chinese Civil Code on the topic “Draft of the Books of Tort Law and Personal Rights” took place at the Law Faculty of Renmin University of China in Peking. This Conference was organized by the Chinese Civil Law Society of the Chinese Legal Association, the Law Faculty of Renmin University of China and the Research Centre for Civil and Commercial Law of Renmin University of China, and held with the assistance of the Sino-German Legal Cooperation Programme of the GIZ and the Research Centre for Roman Law and European Law of East China University for Political Science and Law.

The conference consisted of 6 sessions, with the first three focussing on the Book of Tort Law and the remaining ones on the Book of Personal Law. Legal scholars from around the world took part in the conference, gave high-quality presentations, and contributed with valuable discussions. The participants were drawn from the following institutions: the University of Osnabrück (Germany), the University of Augsburg (Germany), Roma Tre University (Italy), The University of Trieste (Italy), the University of Macerata (Italy), the University of Turin (Italy), the University of Geneva (Switzerland), the Law Faculty of Fribourg University (Switzerland), the Jagiellonian University (Poland), the University of Barcelona (Spain), Peking University, the Legal Studies Faculty of the Tsinghua University, the Renmin University of China, the China University for Political Science and Law, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Beihang University, the Beijing University of Technology, Wuhan University, the East China University for Political Science and Law, the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, the Southwest University of Political Science and Law, the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Qingdao University and others. They also included experts of the Legislative Affairs Commission of Standing Committee of National People’s Congress, the Supreme People’s Court and others.
