From 28 March to 29 March 2019, a two-day training course on fact-finding in court took place at the National Judges College in Beijing. Organized by the Sino-German Legal Cooperation Programm in cooperation with the National Judges College, this course was part of a longer course. Around 105 Chinese judges and prosecutors from several Chinese provinces took part in the two day training. Dr. Arnd Weishaupt, judge at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court, led the course. The aim of this interactive seminar was to teach the participants the basics of establishing facts in court. The focus was on the interrogation of witnesses and the interrogation of the accused. The participants were taught why some witnesses’ statements contain errors, how untrue statements can be consciously recognized and how to make it more difficult for witnesses and defendants to give false statements. The course also dealt with questioning and interrogation techniques. The course ended with a session on the evaluation of evidence.
