As a service provider in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is dedicated to shaping a future worth living around the world. GIZ has over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment promotion, energy and the environment, as well as peace and security. The diverse expertise of our federal enterprise is in demand around the globe – from the German Government, European Union institutions, the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank, the Chinese public sector as well as German and Chinese companies. Our main commissioning party is the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The registered offices of GIZ are in Bonn and Eschborn, Germany. In 2018, we generated a business volume of around 3 billion euros. Our 20,726 employees, around 70 per cent of whom are national personnel, work in around 120 countries.
Political context und work of the GIZ in China
GIZ has been supporting China’s reform and development process on behalf of the German Government for almost 40 years, reflecting China’s changing needs and role in the world. GIZ’s current activities, which are undertaken in the scope of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Germany and China, aim to benefit and serve the interests of both countries. GIZ currently has 46 seconded and 94 national personnel working on 20 bilateral Sino-German, as well as on 10 regional and global projects throughout China.
